Aaron St Cyr grew up on a small farm in the foothills of the Blue
Ridge Mountains where creativity was woven into the rhythm of rural
family life. As a child, her artistic mom encouraged her to make art from whatever was around. She often cut up magazines for collage as a way to express herself, and later began refashioning the pages of old photography and nature books onto furniture salvaged from the streets of New York City, where she lived for 15 years. She spent the next five years in Mexico and Europe, documenting her travels with a Holga camera, before settling in Texas, where her family had lived for generations. Aaron began painting during the pandemic on recycled packing paper left over from a move to the Texas Hill Country, using secondhand paint tubes given to her by her brother. Reclamation is central to her work- all canvases, brushes, paper, and many of the paints, are sourced at estate sales, thrift stores and creative reuse centers.
